He added that Kitsong Centres are essential in providing agricultural information; business development information; tourism; community bulletin board for various announcements; localized directory of governmental services; links to financial institutions as well as educational institutions.
He said, from the pilot projects, BOTEC learnt that majority of users were youths. However, computer illiteracy was one of the inhibiting factors for the elderly members of the rural communities to actively come forward to use the services. He also stated that computer training was also one of the required services by the communities.
Mazhani emphasized that “ICT facilitates for access to information and know-how, understanding of needs and political agenda; enlarging personal networks as well as testing ground for new ideas”.
BOTEC also exhibited the original web portal during the launch and the community got the opportunity to try the ICT project. Most of the people who visited the BOTEC exhibition stand were excited about content built in the project and found it to be very informative and applauded BOTEC for the project.
